Nanny

Jason's nanny (his great-grandma) is a remarkable woman.  Although I do not know her very well, I have truly enjoyed being around her every time I have seen her and love hearing Jason talk about her.  What I love most is her resilience, independence and zest for life.  She is 92 years old and is a complete riot.  Unfortunately, this year she has been battling cancer.  Despite concerns about undergoing treatment at her age, she has chosen to fight the disease.  She was put in the hospital last weekend, and Jason and I went up to visit her at MD Anderson on Monday night.  We had the best few hours with her.  She was in great spirits, was bossin' us around, and was talking about how cute her male nurse is.  :)  So precious.  She had a 7 hour surgery to remove the cancer on Wednesday, and the doctors feel that everything went well.  Praise the Lord!  I am so thankful that I have gotten to know Jason's nanny.  Please continue to keep her in your prayers as she recovers from surgery and continues to fight this cancer.

Walkin In Memphis

Not only do I like this song, but our family now has a reason to be walkin in Memphis.  My baby brother Cody and his fantastic wife just moved to Memphis, TN two weeks ago.  Cody accepted a job with Bayer in their Ag Chemical division as a sales rep.  They told him he would be in Memphis anywhere from 8 months to 2 years before being placed in a territory.  Although we were super sad to see them go, I am beyond thrilled for this opportunity for him and am so proud of him for getting this job.  Cody and Britt are now settled in Memphis, and Cody seems to be loving his job so far.  Jason and I are so excited to visit them hopefully this Spring.

Happy Halloween

Our blog has definitely been neglected for the past month or so. I will try to get caught up and be better in the future. It seems like this fall has just flown by. For Halloween Jason and I went to Jenn and Neal's house to have dinner and hang out with family. Jason's parents brought steaks over to grill, and we had a nice relaxing evening. Jenn bought a gigantic bowl of candy in hopes of having lots of trick-or-treaters for their first year in their new house. Unfortunately, there were only 2 groups of kids that came so Jenn overloaded them with candy. haha It was fun seeing the few groups of cute kids in their costumes, and we enjoyed the night of family time.

Jenn very excited to be handing out candy.

Feels Like Fall....at least inside

 Kitchen table
 Buffet
 Dining Table
Fireplace...I kept it simple and just added some fall garland.
Media stand.  I just love these wicker pumpkins I found at Target this year.
Coffee Table...I added some pumpkin potperie and tied an orange ribbon around the ivory candles I already had in this tray.
I added a pumpkin and some berry garland on the end table in the living room.
Half bath....I just changed out the stuff in the bowl to warmer colors and stuff this little scarecrow in it.
Entry table...I change out this arrangement every season.  I leave most of the items in there and just change the color around it.  I just re-used what I did last year in the arrangement.  I also had picked up a big sack of pine cones from Jason's parents lake house that I used in the brown box and scattered in the other arrangements around the house.  I love using the free stuff to decorate.  :)
Wreath that I picked up last year once all the fall stuff went of clearance.  I am excited to finally get to use it.  I don't have a wreath hanger so I just used ribbon and stapled it to the top of our door.

House of Blues

Last Tuesday, Jason and I went to the House of Blues to see OAR with some friends.  We both love the band and have been to see them every time they have come to Houston since we have been dating.  We danced, sang, and had a great time.  Jason loved the opening band...The Dirty Heads, and OAR played for a really long time.  We ended up not getting home til after midnight which is WAY too late for us for a Tuesday.  Needless to say, it was tough getting up for work on Wednesday but still worth the night out.

"I Do"

Last weekend Jason and I attended a wedding for our friends Michael Simmons and Elizabeth Goicoechea.  They had a beautiful reception at the Crystal ballroom of the Rice hotel in downtown Houston.  I think their flowers were some of the most beautiful I had ever seen.  They had an amazing dinner...a Gorgonzola salad with candied walnuts, steak, a crab cake, veggies, and mashed potatoes.  Everything was delicious.  We also enjoyed a live band that played great wedding music.  Despite Jason having to miss the Tech/Texas game on TV, we had a fantastic time getting to hang out with good friends.  Congrats to the Simmons!!

Picture of the ballroom.  Look at all the gorgeous flower arrangements.  They were all white hydrangeas, roses, calalilies, etc.  Seriously stunning.

Close-up of one of the flower arrangements.  The little white flowers on the top were all hand-glued to the curly willow in the vases.  Really beautiful and so detailed.

Bump, Set, Spike

A few weeks ago, Jason and I started playing in a co-ed sand volleyball league with some couple friends.  It is just the beginning of the season, but we are having alot of fun so far.  It is supposed to just be for fun, but Jason and I's competitive nature usually shines through.  It isn't fun for us unless we win.  :)  Despite our lack of experience, we have put forth a pretty decent showing so far.  The pic below is from our first game.  We have 8 people on our team, but only 5 of us could make it that night so we played with one short....and still won.  woohoo!!
