Labor Day Weekend

Jason and I had a relaxing Labor Day weekend filled with a night at the movies, shopping for me, LOTS of football for Jason, and celebrating Shelby's 3 year-old birthday.  Overall, it was just what the doctor ordered and really nice to not have the entire weekend planned. out.  Enjoy some pics of Shelby's birthday party below.

Two Weeks Notice-Round 2

I never thought I would be writing another post like this so soon but here goes nothin'.  As most of you know, I took a senior financial reporting role at RRI Energy 10 months ago.  Although I was not looking for another job, one just kind of fell in my lap.  Over Memorial weekend, I ran into my senior manager from Ernst & Young at Kroger.  She actually left EY a few months before I did and took the Assistant Controller position at BMC software.  We chatted for a few minutes about both of our new jobs, etc. and went about our shopping.  A few weeks ago, she called me and said that she had a position open up in her financial reporting group and wanted me to go work with her.  I was excited about the prospect of getting to work with her again since I really enjoyed working for her at EY.  We talked about the position and what it would entail, and I met the director that works under her.  Everything just seemed to fall in place.  In general, I will be doing the same job I am doing now but with some added responsibilities.  Although it will most likely be an increase in hours and workload, I am really looking forward to the new challenge.  Jason and I are both really excited about this change and feel like it was God's plan for us at this stage in our life.  I just don't believe that it was coincidence that we were both at Kroger at the same time and that a few months later this position opened up.  My last day at RRI will be September 13th, and I start at BMC the very next day.  We are praying for a smooth transition and that this job will be a great fit for the two of us.

30 Years on the 30th

Happy Anniversary to my fantastic parents who celebrated 30 years of marriage on August 30th.  I am so blessed to have parents who value the commitment of marriage and have built a strong and loving relationship over the years.  Thanks for being such a great example to me and so many others of working hard at your relationship, having fun, and loving each other.  It means the world to me that ya'll still love each other and have such a good marriage after 30 years.  I love you both and hope you had a great anniversary.  Wish I was there to celebrate with you both.

Lake Weekend

Jason and I decided to spend last weekend with his parents up at the lake house.  We didn't do alot, but it was nice to get out of town and just relax.  Here are a couple pictures from the weekend.

Jason took some old golf balls, and we had fun hitting them into the lake.

Jason's parents' friends Tami and Ross also have a boat house on Lake Livingston.  They took us for a ride around the lake on Saturday.  We had fun seeing all the other houses and different neighborhoods.

Slumber Party

My cousin Kristi and her family moved to The Woodlands in June from Florida.  When she told her daughter Bailey that they were moving to Houston, Bailey told her that she wanted to have a slumber party with Jason and Katie.  I thought it was so cute that she thought of us and wanted to come spend the night at our house so I told her we would definitely plan to do that when they moved.  We were all down in Harlingen a few months ago visiting family, and Bailey reminded me again that she wanted to come spend the night.  It finally worked with both of our schedules for Bailey and her brother Cade to come stay with Jason and I last weekend.  I was off on Friday and had a hair appointment in The Woodlands so it worked out perfectly.  After my hair appointment, I met Kristi and the kids at Potbelly for lunch then Cade, Bailey and I headed back to Houston.  We played lots of card games until Jason got home from work that afternoon.  Jason's boss was kind enough to give us 4 great seats to the Astros game Friday night so we thought it would be fun to take the kids.  We ate dinner at the ballpark and let them get the ice cream that's served in the cute Astros helmets.  I am not sure how much of the game they actually watched, but we all had a great time.  We ended up leaving at the beginning of the 5th inning bc the kids were cold after eating their ice cream.  When we got back to the house, they got ready for bed, and we let them pick out a movie to rent.  After some negotiating (I think Cade agreed to give Bailey 2 silly bands) they decided to rent Antz.  Cade and Bailey didn't want to sleep in our guest room alone so we made pallets on our floor and all turned in for the night.  Saturday morning we had chocolate chip pancakes and waffles, eggs, and fruit.  Bailey helped me make breakfast and even cracked all the eggs by herself.  After breakfast we headed back downtown to the Acquarium.  Neither Jason or I had been, and we all thought it was really great.  There was lots to see, some fun hands-on exhibits, and rides.  All in all, it was a great day.  Saturday afternoon, we headed back to The Woodlands to take the kids home and celebrate Josh's birthday.  Thanks Kristi for having us over and trusting us with your kiddos.  We had such a great weekend with family.

Stover's New Digs

Last Saturday night, Jason and I headed out to Katy for a housewarming party for Casey and Robin.  Casey grilled burgers and hot dogs, and Robin made some super yummy appetizers and dessert.  My favorite was the buffalo chicken dip (which I really need to get the recipe for).  Once the sun started going down, we moved the party inside and started up a several hour game of rockband.  I had never played before, and it was SOO much fun.  We had the best time.  Thanks the Stovers for a great evening and congrats on ya'lls new home!

Happy Birthday Monica

Last week we went to dinner at Trulucks to celebrate Monica's 25th birthday.  Houston restaurant week was going on so we decided that would be the perfect thing for Monica's big day.  I had never eaten at Trulucks before, and it did not disapoint.  Houston restaurant week is so great and gives you the opportunity to try really great restaurants for more affordable prices.  Since our dinner reservation was not until 8:30pm, Daniel also ordered tons of appetizers for the table which were to die for.  I would have been fine just skipping my meal after all the yummy seafood I ate before my dinner even arrived.  We enjoyed great food with great friends and had a super fun evening.  Jason and I feel so blessed to have one of our favorite couple friends live right next door.  Happy Birthday Monica!  We hope you had a fantastic birthday and were so glad we got to celebrate with you.
