Father's Day

Jason and I have both been blessed with wonderful dads who love us unconditionally.  My dad is the best example of selflessness I can think of.  He is constantly doing things for others and has truly taught me that it is better to give than receive.  He is also such a hard worker and has always provided for our family.  On top of all of that, he is loads of fun.  Jason always jokes that he needs a vacation from our vacation every time we visit Harlingen bc my dad has so many fun activities lined up for us.  He developed in me a love for sports and the outdoors and has always been such a Godly example of what a wonderful husband and father should be. I truly cherish our relationship and feel blessed beyond what I deserve with such an amazing dad.

Jason has been equally blessed with a great dad and I with a great father-in-law.  Howard is always willing to lend a hand and has helped us countless times moving, fixing things around our house, or repairing our cars.  He has spent the last year and half remodeling their lakehouse and has taught Jason so much along the way.  We have really enjoyed helping and learning the tricks of the trade in home renovation.  He and Jason share similar interests in cars and motorcross.  I know Jason has so many fond memories of car shows and BMX races growing up with his dad.  We are blessed that Jason's parents also live in Houston so we get to spend lots of time as a family.  This father's day was a little bittersweet as we recently found out that Howard has been diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer.  This news obviously has been a difficult adjustment for our family, but Howard has been blessed with an abundant amount of support from family and friends.  He will be starting treatment soon, and I ask that you please keep him in your prayers as he has a tough road ahead.  I know that God can give him and our family a peace that passes all understanding and extraordinary strength.

We were able to spend father's day at Jason's parents house this year.  We kept things simple and grilled burgers with lots of sides and just enjoyed the day with family.  I hope you were all able to do the same.  Happy Father's Day to all the great dads!!

Celebrating the Soon-To-Be Rohlings

Two of Jason's and my best friends and neighbors are tying the knot at the end of August, and we are thrilled to be a part of their wedding.  The Saturday before Father's Day, the wedding party threw them a beach-themed couple's shower at our house.  I made a ton of food, including pork tenderloin, salad, stuffed mushrooms, shrimp and crab mold, shrimpo-de-gallo, and marinated cheese.  I also made beach-shaped cut-out sugar cookies and Katy made mini key lime pies that were so cute.  We had a great turnout with over 40 people at our house.  Dan and Monica got some great gifts and everyone had a blast.  The shower could not have gone more smoothly.  Congrats to a precious couple.  We can't wait til August!!

We had people sign a New Orleans coffee table book instead of a sign-in sheet.  It turned out really cute, and they received lots of fun notes.

Cabo Vacation

Over Memorial Weekend Jason and I took a 6 day trip back to Cabo with two of our great couple friends, the Smiths and the soon-to-be Rohlings.  We stayed at the Riu Palace and had an absolutely fantastic time laying by the pool drinking strawberry margaritas, reading, eating way too much, fishing, jet skiing, and just enjoying paradise with friends.  This trip served as our summer vacation/early celebration of our 2nd anniversary.  This post is late bc I have been playing with some of the pictures that were too big to upload to the blog.  I am so sad bc we had a few other really great pics I wanted to include, but I finally gave up so below is our trip in review of the pictures I managed to get uploaded.

They had towel animals on our bed when we arrived.  So cute!

We caught 3 striped marlin and saw many more jumping all over the ocean.  We had an absolute blast out on the water.   We also ran into a huge school of tuna but unfortunately didn't hook up.

This is the famous Cabo arch.  We were told it only has a beach under it about every 4 years.  When we were there in December it was all water.  It is called Lover's Beach when it has sand under it.

There were beautiful infinity pools in all the pools at the resort.

Our favorite restaurant in Cabo.  The tables are in the sand, and we just kicked off our shoes, rolled up our pants and enjoyed a fabulous dinner.

After dinner, we headed to Cabo Wabo for a few drinks and some dancing.  We had a great time.
